Asian-American Dental Society announces free sealant day event
The Asian-American Dental Society (ADS) at HSC-Baylor College of Dentistry is planning the bi-annual Free Sealant and Prophy (Cleaning) Day on Saturday, November 8, 2008, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, in the college's pediatric dentistry clinic. ADS intends to accomodate as many children (6 – 14 years old) as possible.
The children will be treated by students under the careful guidance of faculty members and area dentists in private practice. Since the program began in 1998, more than 2100 children have been served. To learn more, see Sealant Days.
Students visit nursing homes in new rotation
Dental students and dental hygiene students are teaming up on a new
rotation that provides care to patients in local nursing homes. Students accompany Dr.
Patricia Skur, assistant professor in public health sciences, to one of
13 local nursing homes in the area.
The nursing home rotation began as an option for dental students in the
spring 2007 semester. The idea came from Skur, who provides care
herself at the homes. She worked with Dr. Dan Jones, professor and
chair of public health sciences, to establish a student rotation.
