Department Overview
The Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Texas A&M Health Science Baylor College of Dentistry provides instruction on preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children to dental hygiene, dental students and residents in the graduate pediatric dentistry specialty program. Both undergraduate and graduate programs have external rotations to affiliated clinics and hospitals.
The pediatric dentistry residency program offers a 24-month certificate degree or a 27-month master’s degree in conjunction with biomedical sciences. College faculty provide instruction in research design, growth and development, maturation and anomalies, immunology and radiology. Additional courses included hospital dentistry, periodontics, pathology, behavior management, orthodontics, child development, dental trauma and practice management.
The pediatric faculty’s clinical research interests include behavior management, sedation regimes, clinical therapeutics and pulp therapy. Basic science research focuses on temporomandibular joint inflammation/pain and pulp therapy. Education research centers around the adult educational teaching model and testing the use of objective clinical exam.
