Chair: Dr. P. Emile Rossouw

The Department of Orthodontics at Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry focuses on the specialty in dentistry that deals with straightening teeth and treating problems related to growth and development of the jaws. Department faculty provide orthodontic instruction to dental and dental hygiene students and to residents in postgraduate dental specialty programs as well as graduate degree programs awarded through the HSC. The Advanced Specialty Education Program in orthodontics strives to develop proficiency in diagnosis, treatment planning and treatment of a wide variety of malocclusions using multiple appliance techniques and treatment philosophies. All students in this program receive both specialty certification and a master’s degree upon completion of their requirements. There also is a program that leads to a doctorate in craniofacial biology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

The major focus of research activity in the Department of Orthodontics is the Center for Craniofacial Research and Diagnosis. The center includes a clinical treatment facility, functional analysis and data processing laboratory and offices for cephalometric tracing and analysis.
