
Admission Requirements
In most cases, the minimum length of study to fulfill requirements for the MS degree in Dental Hygiene is two years.
Requirements for the Master of Science degree in Dental Hygiene consist of a total of 37 semester hours, including required courses, a selection of elective courses and completion of a masters thesis or project.
Part-time participation in the program is possible with approval of the Dental Hygiene Graduate Program Director. The program is generally completed within five years of the start date. A request for a one year extension is possible and must be approved by the Office of the Registrar and Graduate Studies.
Admission Criteria
1. Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program in the US or Canada
2. Successful completion of the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university
4. A license to practice dental hygiene from any US state
5. An interview with the Dental Hygiene Graduate Admissions Committee
6. A minimum total GPA of 2.7 (3.0 in dental hygiene course work) on a 4.0 scale
7. A record of study and experience that is predictive of success in advanced education
8. Acceptable scores on the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
9. Approval for admission from the Program Admissions Committee and the Associate Dean for Research
and Graduate Studies.
Admission Procedures
Obtain/print application materials from the Graduate Studies site. Complete and return application and supporting materials to the Office of the Registrar and Graduate Admissions, Baylor College of Dentistry, P.O. Box 660677, Dallas, Texas, 75266-0677. Applications are accepted throughout the year. However, for the recommended Summer Session start date, applications are requested by March 1 of the year of desired admission. Early applications are encouraged.
Distribute the reference forms to each person writing a recommendation for you. Include a stamped, addressed envelope. (Note that these go directly from the recommending person to the Office of the Registrar and Graduate Admissions.)
Include with your application a copy of your Curriculum Vitae or resume and a narrative of your goals and objectives.
Request that official transcripts from all Colleges and Universities you have attended be sent to the Office of the Registrar and Graduate Admissions. These should be sent directly from the College or University to BCD, and not included with the application.
