Ergonomic Dental ChairIn the windy city of Chicago and in Big D, dentists are shopping for the newest products and technology.  For example, an ergonomic dental chair prevents back pain for both the patient and dentist during long appointments.

How about instant dentures that fit better and last longer? New all porcelain crowns eliminate the ugly dark line often seen in metal crowns. To whiten your natural teeth, the bleaching products battle it out. Never has it been easier and cheaper to bleach your teeth. And to keep your teeth clean, the simple toothbrush is now multi-angled with multiple levels.

Newly designed dental floss is kinder and gentler to both your gums and your fingers. For the orthodontic patient, retainers can reflect a patient’s hobbies, sports, even choice of college. In a booth of a different kind, recruiters stand ready to sign up dentists for the U.S. Army Dental Corps.

Just for fun, students from the Baylor College of Dentistry, play a competitive game of dental Jeopardy. You might recognize one of the dental students. Fourth-year student Jed Hildebrand appeared on the Survivor television show. He comes from a family of dentists. “I just followed my brothers and my dad’s footsteps,” Hildebrand said. “All three of them are dentists. The passion I have is to help people have beautiful smiles.”

Dental conferences offer more than just the latest products and technology. They also offer education to dentists and their staffs. So that back at the office, they do an even better job treating you.

Dr. Linda Niessen, clinical professor in the Department of Restorative Sciences and  the Office of Communications and Development at Baylor College of Dentistry, hosts Dental Health Check, the only weekly dental feature shot on location in the nation.
