A Message From
Dr. James S. Cole, Dean

BCD began in 1905 as State Dental College, a private three-year dental school that initially struggled to find investors, professors and students. Today we are part of the The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center, our faculty is world-renowned and our students are among the top dental graduates in the nation.

Our oral health sciences education programs, research, specialized patient care and continuing dental education are nationally recognized. We are also home to the highly acclaimed Caruth School of Dental Hygiene, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2005.

Centennial events were held throughout 2005.  The celebration began in January with Homecoming 2005, the Caruth School of Dental Hygiene’s 50th Anniversary Luncheon and the Centennial Gala, held during the Southwest Dental Conference. Additional events occurred throughout the year, including the Centennial Convocation held at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center and the Centennial Celebration Picnic held at the Baylor Tom Landry Fitness Center.  Our Centennial celebration officially concludes May 4, 2006 with the dedication of a historical marker to be located on the corner of Gaston and Hall streets.
