Dr. Toru Okabe,
Regents Professor and chair of biomaterials science, was appointed to the board of the Society for Titanium Alloys in Dentistry in October. His two-year term begins in April.
Okabe is the first person from the United States to become a board member.
The society meets annually in Japan for a board meeting and scientific presentation session. The group was formed to promote research on
titanium and titanium alloys for dental applications. Okabe said that titanium research is much more active in Japan than in the United States. He believes his appointment may be an indicator of
increasing research activity in this country. .
