Welcoming Diversity Committee sponsors speaker, photo contest
Celebrating diversity is a tradition at Baylor College of Dentistry, and the Welcoming Diversity Committee is planning a major event for March 31. Fred J. Kleisner, chair of the board and chief executive
officer of Wyndham International, will present "The Wyndham Initiative" at noon in Room 605.
Kleisner will discuss how his company's diversity initiative has affected the corporation's internal community and its position in the marketplace. Following his presentation, winners of BCD's
"Journey to Awareness" photo contest will be announced (see rules below).
"I am committed to creating a culture that fosters an inclusive environment where all employees are valued and respected for their individuality, and where these employees can create possibilities not
only for the company, but for themselves as well," Kleisner said.
Under Kleisner's leadership, Wyndham International recently was named to Fortune magazine's Companies for Minorities for creating a diverse workforce of talented employees. New opportunities for
minority-owned businesses have been provided and Fortune praised Wyndham for "top honors in purchasing" for tripling business with minority vendors. Savoy Magazine, one of the largest
African-American-owned publications, recognized Wyndham for its excellence in diversity, making it the first hotel company to be chosen for this distinction.
'Journey to Awareness' Photo Contest Rules
Submissions to BCD's "Journey to Awareness" photo contest should fit the theme and be titled appropriately. Deadline for submissions is March 17 in Room 204. First-, second- and third-place
winners will be announced following Kleisner's presentation, and all photographs will be displayed.
Welcoming Diversity Committee members will judge the photos, and judging will be blind. For more information about the photo contest, contact Darla Benson,
educational program coordinator in student development, at Ext 8108 or stop by Room 204.
- Submit a maximum of three non-returnable photographs to Benson in Room 204.
- Label each photo with a short title, your name, telephone number and department. Write with pencil very lightly or use a prewritten label so that the writing does not make an impression on the photo.
- Photos from previous contests are ineligible.
- Submissions should be original, unedited photos that are no larger than 8x10.
- Prizes of $50, $30 and $20 in North Park Dollars will be awarded for first, second and third place, respectively. No contestant will be eligible for more than one prize.
