Presentations: Ann McCann was an invited speaker at the 2003 Assessment Institute at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis Nov. 4. She presented "Levels and Loops of Learning at a Dental School." On Nov. 5, she provided consultation services to Dr. James McDonald, associate dean for curriculum, and his staff at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. Clinical Services Presentation: Dr. Thomas K. Hasegawa Jr. was a facilitator for the program "Truth Claims in Dentistry" at the Ethics Summit #3, sponsored by the American College of Dentists. The program was held in Orlando, Fla., Jan. 20-21. Publication: Hasegawa TK, Matthews M, Grogan DM. Ethical dilemma: I'm sure it is all right (swallowed/aspirated casting?). Texas Dental Journal 121(1):99-101, 2004. Restorative Sciences Presentation: Dr. Stanton Cobb presented "On Healthcare Delivery in the Third World Setting" to the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Nov.10. The PowerPoint presentation included pictures of healthcare delivery at Tenwek Missionary Hospital in the Bomet district in southwest Kenya. Cobb taught the course "Conservative Dentistry" at Tenwek in August 2003. His family served there as well. Pamela, his wife and a BCD dental hygiene alumna, provided dental hygiene as needed while his daughters, Catie (20) and Grace (18), worked in the pharmacy. Other News: Cobb earned a master's degree in Biblical studies with a cross-cultural and ethics emphasis from the Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas in January. He also received the Graduate Teacher's Diploma, which allows him to teach certified courses to others for credit. Cobb's thesis, "Transcultural Truth and the Cultural Realities with Regard to Gender," included an appendix looking at these issues among the Kipsigis Tribe in Africa. taught dentistry at Tenwek. |
