Dr. Ibtisam Al-Hashimi,
associate professor of periodontics, was appointed a visiting professor at the Queens University School of Dentistry in Belfast, Northern Ireland, for 2003. She
spent a month in late August and early September at the school, lecturing and participating in the clinic and research. Her appointment recently was renewed for 2004.
Dr. Pat Allen (BCD '69, '72), clinical
professor of periodontics, was elected to a one-year term as vice president of the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation during its board of directors meeting in September. He also was re-elected to a
second three-year term as a director.
Dr. Linda Niessen, clinical professor of
restorative sciences, was appointed to a one-year term on the American Dental Association Foundation board of directors in November.
Niessen also is serving a one-year term as president of Friends of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, which concludes in March. She presented awards Nov. 3 during
the organization's annual gala, which recognized the benefits that patients receive from oral health research and the efforts of individuals who have worked to improve oral health.
