Publication: Zhang Y, Griggs JA, Benham AW. Influence of powder-liquid mixing ratio on porosity and translucency of dental porcelains. Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry 91:128-135, 2004. Clinical Services Presentations: Dr. Thomas K. Hasegawa participated in three programs at the American Dental Education Association's annual session in Seattle, Wash., March 6-7. He was the speaker for the Evaluating Ethics: Beyond Paper and Pencil program titled "Assessing Professionalism Across the Clinics." Hasegawa led a faculty development workshop titled "Defining and Assessing Professionalism in the Clinic Setting." The workshop included Drs. Ron Botto and David Ozar. He also participated in another faculty development workshop titled "Clinical Faculty Credentialing: What, Where, When, Why and How," which was led by Dr. Robert Cederberg. Other News: Hasegawa attended the 2004 Forum on Ethics, Values and Character Development at Southern Methodist University in Dallas March 2. Communications & Development Elizabeth J. Fulce presented "Caring for the Teeth God Gave Us" to two home-school classes of kindergarten, first-, second- and third-grade students at the Texoma Home Educators' Enrichment Classes Co-op March 19. She used puppets, props and visual aids provided by BCD's public health sciences department and distributed toothbrushes provided by her department. Fulce and her husband, Glen, are actively involved in THE and have home-schooled their 14-year-old son, Garrett, for nine years. Endodontics The department welcomes Dr. Elizabeth M. Saunders, a visiting professor from Scotland. As a consultant and specialist in endodontics and clinical senior lecturer at the University of Dundee Dental School, she is responsible for the undergraduate endodontics program. Although she teaches restorative dentistry, her major clinical, research and teaching interest and involvement is in endodontics. Saunders' present investigation is to make a detailed comparison between undergraduate preclinical and clinical teaching of endodontics at Dundee Dental School and four U.S. dental schools. She arrived at Baylor College of Dentistry March 15 and will remain until April 16. She will spend two weeks each at the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis, and the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio Dental School. Saunders lectures widely in the United Kingdom and abroad. She also is involved with endodontics continuing education "hands-on" courses. She is past president of the British Endodontic Society. Periodontics Presentation: Dr. Miles Beach presented a lunch-and-learn seminar at the American Dental Education Association's annual session in Seattle, Wash., March 7. The title was "Career Opportunities for Dentists." Other News: Dr. David Kerns attended the ADEA meeting March 6-9. He worked as vice chair of the Section on Postgraduate Education for the past year and was nominated to be the 2005 chair of the section for the group's meeting in Baltimore. Angela Lee-Noles served as assistant auxiliary coordinator for the Western Regional Examining Board March 18-23 in Loma Linda, Calif. The department welcomes Beth Crawford, patient appointment associate. She has worked in general dentistry for five years. Crawford recently moved from Plano, Texas, to Dallas with her husband, Charles,
and two sons, Joseph and Adam. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, going to the movies and shopping. |
